Here's a list of evacuation shelters in Southwest Florida (2024)

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA — Multiple zones in multiple counties are under mandatory evacuation. There are shelters open across southwest Florida for anyone who needs it.

LEE COUNTY SHELTERS OPEN

  • Island Coast High School at 2125 De Navarra Pkwy, Cape Coral
  • Dunbar High School at 3800 Edison Ave, Fort Myers
  • Estero Recreation Center at 9200 Corkscrew Palms Blvd, Estero (at 75% capacity, as of 5:30 p.m. Tuesday)
  • Gateway High School at 13820 Griffin Drive, Fort Myers
  • Hertz Arena at 11000 Everblades Parkway, Estero
  • Oak Hammock Middle School at 5321 Tice St., Fort Myers
  • Tortuga Preserve Elementary School at 1711 Gunnery Road N., Lehigh Acres
  • Treeline Elementary School at 10900 Treeline Ave., Fort Myers
  • Varsity Lakes Middle School at 801 Gunnery Road N., Lehigh Acres
  • Alico Arena at 12181 FGCU Lake Parkway East, Fort Myers
  • East Lee County High School at 715 Thomas Sherwin Ave., Lehigh Acres
  • Harns Marsh Elementary School at 1800 Unice Ave. N., Lehigh Acres
  • Harns Marsh Middle School at 1820 Unice Ave. N., Lehigh Acres
  • All shelters accept pets, but they must be on a leash or in a crate.

CHARLOTTE COUNTY:

  • Babcock Ranch School Field House at 43281 Cypress Parkway
  • Harold Avenue Recreation Center, 23400 Harold Ave., in Port Charlotte
  • Kingsway Elementary School at 23300 Quasar Blvd., in Port Charlotte
  • Liberty Elementary School at 370 Atwater St., in Port Charlotte
  • Neil Armstrong Elementary School at 22100 Breezeswept Ave., in Port Charlotte

Here's what you need to bring:

  • Sleeping bag, sleeping pad and/or blankets and pillow
  • Personal flashlight & headlamps
  • Disinfectant supplies, hand sanitizer, soap, cloth face coverings
  • Toothbrush/toothpaste
  • Soap – you may choose to purchase body wipes for quick wipe downs instead of soap
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Cell phones chargers/backup battery
  • Extra sets of clothes suitable for the season
  • Extra socks and sturdy shoes
  • Food or snacks (72+ hours worth)
  • Books or magazine
  • Prescription medications, eyeglasses
  • Important documents

If you will have pets, be sure to bring:

  • Pet care items
  • Pet food and water (at least two weeks worth)
  • Proper identification
  • Medical records/microchip info/vaccination papers
  • A carrier or cage
  • Muzzle and leash
  • Water and food bowls
  • Medications

COLLIER COUNTY SHELTERS OPEN AT 4 P.M. TUESDAY:

  • Gulf Coast High School at 7878 Shark Way
  • Immokalee High School at 701 Immokalee Drive
  • Golden Gate High School at 2925 Titan Way
  • Corkscrew Middle School (Pet-Friendly) at 1165 Oil Well Road
  • Cypress Palm Middle School (Pet-Friendly) at 4255 18th Ave N.E.
  • Golden Gate Middle School (Pet-Friendly) at 2701 48th Terrace S.W.
  • Immokalee Middle School (Pet-Friendly) at 401 9th Street
  • Oakridge Middle School (Pet-Friendly) at 14975 Collier Blvd
  • Special Needs Shelter at Palmetto Ridge High School (Pet-Friendly) at 1655 Victory Lane (Opens at 2 p.m. Tuesday)
  • All pets must stay in a crate and they will be housed in a different location in the school

Here's what to bring:

  • Necessary medications
  • Cell phone chargers
  • Toiletries
  • Food
  • Water
  • Flashlights
  • Bedding

DESOTO COUNTY SHELTERS OPEN TUESDAY AT NOON:

  • DeSoto Middle School at 420 E Gibson St, Arcadia
  • South Florida State College at 2251 NE Turner Ave #2700, Arcadia (SPECIAL NEEDS SHELTER)

Here’s what to bring:

  • Your full emergency supply kit
  • Any necessary medical supplies
  • Special dietary items
  • ID or passport
  • Comfort items like pillows, blankets, or bed rolls
  • Pack some items to help pass the time, such as playing cards, board games, or laptops for movies.

HENDRY COUNTY SHELTERS OPENING TUESDAY AT 6 P.M.:

  • LaBelle Middle School at 8000 E Cowboy Way in LaBelle
  • Clewiston High School at 1501 Francisco St. in Clewiston
  • The special needs shelter is at LJ Nobles Senior Center at 475 E Cowboy Way in LaBelle
  • If you need a ride to the shelter, utilize STREAM transit fixed route services
  • If you are going to a shelter at a school, there will be no food, water or bedding.

Here’s what to bring:

  • Sleeping gear: A sleeping bag, blanket, pillow, or air mattress. There are NO cots or bedding provided at the shelter.
  • Clothing and shoes: Extra clothes and shoes for each person.
  • Personal hygiene items: Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, towels and other hygiene products.
  • Important documents: Identification, Social Security Card, birth and/or marriage certificates, passports, insurance policies, wills, and other important papers.
  • Medication and first aid: Medications clearly marked with your name, dosage, and doctor’s name, plus a first aid kit in a waterproof box.
  • Electronics: a cell phone, charger, flashlight, and battery-operated radio.
  • Other supplies: a whistle to signal for help, extra batteries, and manual can opener.
  • Small Children and infants: Baby formula, diapers, snacks.
  • Elderly: Walker or wheelchair, oxygen, and any necessary medications.
  • Pets: Food and water, dishes, and a leash for bathroom breaks. Pets MUST be in a crate at all times.
